TUKWILA, Wash. -- A 20-year-old woman is dead and three teenage passengers are injured following a rollover crash on Interstate 5 in King County.

The Washington State Patrol says Katerina M. Valavala of Des Moines died in the one-vehicle crash Saturday night just north of SR-518.

The patrol says Valavala was driving when she missed an exit and made a quick turn to the right and hit a curb, causing the car to rollover.

Three passengers, all 16 and 17 years old, were hospitalized at Harborview Medical Center. There was no word on their conditions.

The patrol says the crash is under investigation.

So very sad for the families involved in this. For those of you who ask why young drivers aren't better trained - part of the reason could be that the cost of drivers ed is now $500-$1,000. Another dividing line between the have's and have-not's? Maybe.

Who is teaching these new drivers these poor driving and decision making skills?? I am a professional driver and have been for years, within the last 5 years it seems as if our roads are filled with very poor drivers... what has happened to drivers education programs?

@baz, I wish it had been obvious to her. Sad ending.

It can be tempting to make a sudden move when you realize you have missed your turn. Obviously it is so much better to stay in your lane and find another exit and loop back around for another try.

Improper driver training. One should never attempt to swerve hard to make a missed exit. Go to the next one and come back. Sadly this lady was never taught how to drive correctly. Perhaps having a car full of teens didn't help but regardless, she forgot that her primary job when behind the wheel is to drive. I'm sorry for the family of the driver, she was a young woman with her life ahead of her. All of their hopes and dreams for her gone in an instant. I hope the injuries weren't too bad for the passengers and that they were belted in. And, as always, I am glad that she didn't hurt or kill any innocent people around her. It's a shame that people can't learn from the mistakes of others. Especially when the lesson carries such a high cost.

How sad...How very sad..I have done the same thing as this poor child but luckily I never crashed or caused anyone else to crash as well.. I hope those that survived are doing well and my prayers to the parents of the child that was killed..
