SEATTLE – A woman was injured Wednesday morning when she was hit by a Metro bus.

Witnesses say the woman was crossing the street against the light at the Northgate transit center when she was struck.

"She was on the south side of the crosswalk, that unfortunately means she was crossing on 'don't walk'  and here's the driver taking her left turn on a green and it just happened, it's very unfortunate," said Leslie Freeman, who was a passenger on the bus.

One witness said the woman was unconscious for a time.

Metro officials say the woman was hit by a mirror on the bus and injured her wrist.

The pedestrian is responsible for making sure the intersection is clear before crossing. At any rate, if you are in a crosswalk and there's an approaching bus, the bus driver can't avoid hitting a pedestrian he/she can't see... so run, don't walk! Also, you can get knocked down by the mirror and still get run over by the turning bus.

Sounds like she went for the lawsuit. I hope she fails. All she had to do was smack the mirror and roll under the bus when it stopped.

Pedestrians always have the right away, regardless of what the sign says.

They make walk and don't walk signs for a reason. For those who don't read english, it's a red hand for don't walk and a green hand for the walk. Hope she's OK, and the driver doesn't suffer any repercussions.

Sorry, don't mean to be calous...but she shouldn't have been walking against the "don't walk" sign in the first place. she paid the price for her stupidity.

What the Metro officials say is false. She wasn't "hit by the mirror". When I got there she was very far under the bus (about down to her chest) and unconscious. She woke up when the EMTs were pulling her out.
