SEATTLE – Police continue to look for a man who attacked a woman who was jogging in Seward Park Monday evening.
Seattle Police say it happened at about 6:30 p.m. on one of the wooded paths by the fish hatchery.
The woman, 55, was jogging along when she came upon a man. They said hello to each other and the woman continued on her way. A little while later, the same man allegedly jumped on her from behind and began struggling with her.
Police say the victim was punched in the face several times. At one point, she noticed the man had a knife.
Eventually, she was able to fight the man off and the attacker ran away.
Another man showed up a few minutes later and found the semi-conscious woman. She was taken to the hospital. Her condition is not immediately known.
Other people called 911 around the same time as the attack after hearing the woman screaming for help.
Police surrounded the park late Monday and used K-9's, harbor patrol and King County's Guardian One helicopter to search for the suspect.
"Some witnesses saw the suspect and the suspect ran off and from the time references we've been able to research, we believe the distance was far enough away that officers got here in time, very quick response by Seattle police officers, that we believe we contained him in the park," said police Capt. Greg Schmidt.
By 11 p.m., police scaled back the search. Police say the victim gave a vague description of the suspect: a black male, 18-30 years-old with short hair and a "baby face."
