EVERETT, Wash. -- A water main break in downtown Everett has closed several streets, impacting traffic in the area.

A 12-inch water main broke around 5 a.m. on Hewitt Avenue between Virginia and Cedar streets, flooding the sidewalk, street and businesses nearby.

A welding store near the break sustained most of the damage after water flooded the store. City crews are trying to suction the water out of the store and clean up the muddy mess. A hardware store was also impacted.

Meanwhile, two blocks in the area are without water. City crews have been giving water bottles to residents in the interim.

Crews hope to have the water up and running sometime later Thursday.
