SEATTLE – Utility crews had to deal with a water main break which may have triggered a natural gas leak Monday night.
It happened at 49th Ave. SW and SW Canada Drive.
Seattle Public Utilities were working on a 16-inch water main break when workers apparently nicked a gas line.
About 100 homes were without water and seven additional home were without gas.
Residents said they came home from work around 5pm to find no running water in their homes. Later they could smell the strong stench of natural gas throughout the neighborhood.
Homeowner Steve Jenkins said he had no water out of his faucets, no way to flush the toilets, and could not cook dinner because his gas stove wasn't working.
The utility says gas was restored by 10:30 p.m. and water was restored at about 4 a.m. Tuesday morning.
