SEATTLE - After looking for a job for 18 months, former journalist and marketing expert Lee Somerstein has taken his job search – along with his pets – to the streets of downtown Seattle.

Somerstein has set up a lawn chair on the corner of Fourth and Madison and is passing out his resume to anyone who will take it.

Joining Somerstein is his dog, Trooper, and his cat, Tex. He has a sign telling passers-by that he lost his job and soon could lose his Kent townhome, which is in foreclosure.

"Desperate times call for desperate action," says Somerstein, who hopes someone will come along an offer him a job.

I'd love to comment on Mr Somerstein as a person, but who ever hires him, if anyone, will find out soon enough. I will not defame him. He will do a good enough job of this himself. Instead let me voice my displeasure with King5 for giving this man airtime. There are many out there like Mr Somerstein who have worked thier tail off for years with the same company, only to be let go due to downsizing. Not the case here. Those people get up each morning and work thier tails off to look for work in the normal fashion. Because Mr Somerstein had roots in the media, you thought this was a great opportunity for a human interest story. Mr Somerstein says that he feels exposed and vulnerable. Most who feel this way dont send out press releases to announce thier "emotions". He is now a panhandler, nothing more. As far as I'm concerned this should fall under the new legisltion on agressive panhandling. I hope King5 helps out all of the panhandlers in Seattle, not just former reporters.

What's sad about this is that, speaking as someone who works and lives in Seattle, I tend to ignore anyone on the street. I just assume they are after me for money, which is typically the case. With so many beggers and activists trying to take up your time, you tend to tune everyone out. I hope someone gives this guy a chance!

I only speak for myself, he has a ton of talent and these are difficult times for so many professional and non to make ends meet. I admire his humility to take up a front to promote himself, but I could not sit there and also take money from strangers to help me out with my troubles. No condemnation, just not the smartest marketing idea to have the I need box on the pavement.

Huh, I go to 4th and Madison practically every day, I have to admit I've never seen this guy. More power to him; can't say he's wrong, in today's economy and hard times. Good luck to him, Trooper and Tex. At least he's got his pals with him.
