SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. -- Two hikers who were lost in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness near Snoqualmie Pass were rescued Tuesday, 17 miles from the trailhead.
King County sheriff's Sgt. Cindi West says the sheriff's helicopter picked up 18-year-old Ricardo Perez of Edmonds and 19-year-old Brian Chim of Mukilteo Tuesday morning in good condition. They were flown to the Bandera Air Field at North Bend.
Searchers pinged the men’s cell phones before they lost service. Rescuers spotted them shaking the brush.
The two had failed to return Sunday from a day hike and were reported missing by their parents.
Chim said the two built a fire and a shelter. They were fortunate to have dry summer weather on their side.
"We didn't have any long pants in general, and we didn't have a blanket to cover us up. I didn't have a sweater,” said Chim.
"It was really scary actually," said Perez. "Brian kept me together, I was crying like a little girl, but Brian was there and kept me together.”
