SEATTLE - Two women were hurt while parachuting on Sunday.

The Snohomish Fire Dept. says an instructor and student were parachuting in tandem when they experienced a hard landing in Monroe.

One woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the other woman was rushed to an Everett hospital.

@atthescene: I know the student who was with you, and I know she's tried to get in touch with you. Maybe she didn't have the correct contact info. If you email me I'll gladly facilitate the connection. (beth.hillerstrom@gmail.com). As one of her friends, we deeply appreciate your courage and knowledge that day in saving both of your lives. From what we understand, it was a miracle and I believe that you were supernaturally enabled to be able to do what you had to do in the face of something so terrifying. Thank you. We know that you did everything you could and (relatively speaking) it is amazing that the injuries were those that heal and allow you to both "walk away" from this. You are a champ. I pray that you are healing well, both physically and emotionally.

Hi Jane0362 - I agree with you 100% your sister in law was definately not walking away with bumps and brusies. She was truely amazing in her composure during the entire incident. I don't have her phone number any more as it was in a text message I recieved but I wanted to check in with her and your family to see how she is doing. I hear she is up walking which is great news. I don't know if you and I met in the hospital or not when I came to talk to her but I wanted you to know that everytime I think of my broken femur, my heart goes out to her as well. The whole incident which as posted before was a one in a million but I still can't get it out of my brain. I hope that someday I will because the joy of being an instructor is amazing. I wish I could have done more to keep your sister in law from further injury as I did everything I could just to keep the reserve parachute inflated and over our head. You all are in my thoughts and if possible I'd love to hear from her.

sonolodo... the student you refer to is hardly suffering from just bumps and bruises. She is my sister-in-law and is in the hospital with two broken vertebrae awaiting surgery. Make sure you have your facts straight before speaking on the issue. Please keep my brother's family in your thoughts and prayers as well as the instructor involved in this terrible accident.

And yes, the packers - who are also my friends - make jokes to lighten the mood when someone asks an ignorant question. Do you really think they would be certified packers if their chutes failed? They make jokes to make nervous people smile because there really is nothing to be scared of. Accident's like yesterday's are almost one in a million.

People, leave your jokes out of this story. I know the instructor who was hurt - she did everything possible to save the student from injury and, from what I hear, the student walked away with bumps and bruises. She did her job very well! I was not at the drop zone that day but will be there next weekend. Skydiving is a very safe sport! There were record low fatalities last year with the record high number of jumps. So before you jump to conclusions, LEARN SOMETHING! From what I have heard about yesterday's accident, there were two unrelated parachute malfunctions that rarely occur. The odds of this combination of problems is extraordinarily rare. The instructor is recovering, by the way.

No reason to jump out of a plane that is working & in no danger of a crash. If it was one of the idots we put in public office they would have been ok because the are all full of hot air & are nothing more than wind bags

Why would some one jump out of good airplane that wasn't on fire?

Do we have a name yet, people!? Normally the Tandems land at Harvey, the other field is Bartelheimer, by the ball fields... I have a feeling they were AT the airfield... good, because that's where Medivac lands...

Seriously, I once asked one of the parachute packers at Harvey Field, while he was working, if he had ever had one of his packed chutes fail to open; He stopped stuffing the chute he was working on, thought for a minute, then resumed. He finally said, "Well, let me put it this way...I've never had a customer come back to complain."

Geez King 5, get your story straight, it was right next to Harvey Field in Snohomish, not Monroe. I drove right past the scene this afternoon.....Best wishes for the victims, glad it wasn't worse.
