A man was killed Thursday when the car he was driving crashed head-on into a pickup truck on Highway 2 outside Snohomish.

The man who died was driving a black Honda and has not been identified.

Washington State Patrol troopers said he is not the registered owner of the vehicle. A screwdriver was found in the ignition.

A father and son from Snohomish, Robert Bentz, 45, and Rody Bentz, 16, were also injured in the accident.

The crash happened around 6:00 a.m. at milepost 5 near S.R. 9 (the 88th Street Southeast overpass).

Troopers said the Honda crossed into the eastbound lanes of Highway 2, hitting the Bentzs' truck head-on.

The driver of the Honda was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Robert and Rody Bentz were taken to the Providence Colby Medical Center in Everett. Robert was later transferred to Harborview with critical injuries. Rody sustained non life-threatening injuries, troopers said.

Highway 2 reopened by 9:30 a.m.

Troopers said the victim who died did not have a shirt on at the time of the crash.

It has been 52 days since the last serious crash on Highway 2 -- a notable period of time, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Additional details will be posted as they are released.
