JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. - The Department of Defense on Monday announced the deaths of two Soldiers.
Sgt. Israel P. O'Bryan, 24, of Newbern, Tenn., and Spc. William C. Yauch, 23, of Batesville, Ark. were killed June 11 in Jalula, Iraq, after insurgents attacked their unit with a vehicle-borne IED.
They were assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.
O'Bryan enlisted in May of 2006 at Memphis, Tenn. and reported to then-Fort Lewis, Wash. in December, 2006, and was assigned to 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.
The brigade deployed to Iraq in August, 2009. It was O'Bryan's second deployment with the brigade. His first deployment was in 2007.
Yauch enlisted in August, 2007 at Little Rock, Ark. and reported to then-Fort Lewis, Wash. in December, 2007, and was assigned to 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. It was his first deployment.
