Tunnel boring machine in pieces for voyage to Seattle

The central section of the machine that will bore the SR 99 tunnel is hoisted into place at the manufacturing facility in Japan. Crews will finish assembling the machine by the end of 2012. It will then be taken apart and shipped to Seattle in 41 pieces weighing up to 900 tons each, with the first pieces arriving in early 2013.
