A section of Sate Route 522 in Lake Forest Park is expected to remain closed through the Thursday evening commute due to power and phone lines still hanging over the road after a tree came down Wednesday night.

The Washington State Department of Transportation tweeted that Seattle City Light believes work to repair the problem will last into the evening commute.

SR 522 was closed betwen NE 165th Street and NE 170th Street.  The Washington State Department of Transportation says drivers who travel SR 522 westbound should take Ballinger Way/SR 104 and eastbound drivers should take NE 145th Street.

Police asked that drivers not cut through the Lake Forest Park Shopping Center, saying it would only add to their commute. Also, drivers of big trucks were asked to avoid the northbound lanes because the detour goes through a neighborhood.

The tree came down before midnight Wednesday, taking down power lines and knocking a transformer to the ground. Power was lost to about 4,500 customers.

Seattle City Light said it didn’t immediately know what caused the tree to come down, but one resident said she saw workers cutting back trees this week.
