A newly purchased, $80,000 transport van used by the Veteran’s Administration to transport disabled vets was one of two vehicles totaled in a crash on I-5 Saturday morning.
All southbound lanes were closed at 272nd because of the crash.
Witnesses said the driver of a blue SUV may have tried to pass on the right shoulder at a high rate of speed, causing the collision.
The State Patrol said the driver of the VA van had just dropped someone off prior to the collision.
Nobody was seriously hurt in the collision.
The State Patrol said a suspect, a possible DUI, attempted to steal a car at the scene but was taken into custody.
