ENUMCLAW, Wash. - Hundreds of teens converged on the small town of Enumclaw Saturday for a day of service.
It's called the "Big Day of Serving" and is sponsored by a Christian nonprofit organization.
"It's wonderful to see the faces of young people who are tranformed after a day of giving," said organizer Brook Hickle.
It will be a long day for the 10- to 19-year-old volunteers. Among the projects, yard and maintenance work, painting and picking up litter.
"I'm excited to get be with my friends and help my home town out," said 14 year old Brendan Stewart of Enumclaw.
The teens came from all over the area, including Oregon.
Ninetee-year-old Jonathan Chandler of Moses Lake made the trip Saturday morning.
"Besides the joy of volunteering, I hope to learn how this event was done so I can try to get one like it in my home town," says Chandler.
Organizers estimate more than 200 teens showed up. The event wraps up after a worship service.
