OLYMPIA, Wash. – Several tax day Tea Parties, protesting higher taxes and big government, are being held across Washington state Thursday.

The largest brought people to the steps of the state Capitol in Olympia. The Washington State Patrol estimates some 3,000 showed up, which is about 1,000 less than a year ago.

The TEA in Tea Party stands for Taxed Enough Already, which is how the people who showed up feel.

This week, the Washington state Legislature passed a budget calling for about $800 million in new taxes to help offset a $2.8 billion deficit. Later this year, beer, soda, candy, cigarettes and other items will face new or increased taxes.

Protesters say those who voted for the new taxes and are up for re-election in November need to be voted out of office. Speakers also criticized Pres. Barack Obama and the recent health care reform law.

If there were any counter-protesters at the Olympia Tea Party, they were hard to find.

Extra state troopers were brought in to patrol around the Capitol, but WSP says it expects the demonstration to be peaceful.

Hundreds of people also showed up to a rally at the Snohomish County Courthouse in Everett. A couple of counter-protesters could be seen nearby. One held a sign saying "I love taxes."

Another large rally is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Seattle's Westlake Center.

Rallies were also held in Bellevue, Mount Vernon, Bellingham, Okanogan, Moses Lake, Richland, Prosser and Walla Walla.

Hi rosie234 - You've confused me. So your argument IS for socialized medicine ( the far left of the spectrum that leads to socialism) but then you say in order to prove your theory FOR it you say let's pay NO taxes (to the other side of the far right spectrum that leads to Anarchy) to SHOW them! Please explain.

@ dkjamerican - I agree keep your religion in your heart and at church but I don't think she's preaching from a pulpit, I think she just at least acknowledges a "God" and I think that's more important. I really don't think she'll run for President, I hope NOT but I don't loath her. I know she can get a little annoying with the "You betcha's" and her voice and stuff but some of my neighbors annoy me too and I haven't chosen to move yet...yet...lol

The photos tell it all....lots of senior citizens there. Who is paying for their health care? Oh THAT'S right, I AM!! Where would they be without "socialized medicine" and the taxes that I pay so that they can have their bypass operations and their insulin shots because they don't take care of themselves. Fat slobs. Let's cut them off and show them what "no taxes" will really mean to them.

Thank you Tea Partier’s for attending on behalf of those of us that could not be there. I look forward to joining you for the first time at the next rally. You can also thank Congressman Rick Larson for my support at the local level. I’m looking forward to helping him return to the private sector or to the unemployment line ASAP. Either place is fine.

This article was MOST interesting in that it was written at 7:51 Am ...four hours BEFORE the rally started and yet it gave an estimate of how many people HAD ATTENDED and LATER in the article said counter protesters WERE hard to find, and the State patrol had extra officers available but it EXPECTS the rally to be peaceful. Um, King 5 news...you ... may want to consider hiring REPORTERS and not story tellers. OR if you are not going to accurately report the news, at least hire goons who have taken a writing class! There they will learn about chronological order in stories

The Tea Partiers are being countered by a start-up group called "The Other 95%," which descended on D.C. on Thursday to protest "right across from Tea Party rally." "Obama passed 25 separate tax cuts," Sheryl Stein, founding member of "The Other 95%" said in a statement announcing the group's plans, "including $300 billion in middle class tax cuts -- one of the largest in history - as part of the stimulus package. Unlike President Bush's 2001 tax cuts, which went to the wealthiest 2.2%, President Obama's tax cuts overwhelmingly benefit working and middle class families -- in fact, 95% of all Americans."

See I love this...the story was posted at 7:51AM?, so do they report about a story and take pictures about a rally that didn't officially start at 12pm? hahaha. I was there and there were a bit more today on a Thursday workday than the Saturday rally supporting Rob McKenna (were King5 only reported "Hundreds") at least King5 you gave it a little bit of a fair shake with "thousands". No violence, no racial slurs, no stupid signs, (there was like 5 "dudes" way outside the rally with a single picture of obama with a hitler mustache saying Save NASA stop Obama!) Everyone there got a good laugh at what they were trying to do. ( Maybe try to paint the Tea Partier's as whatever? ) It was an awesome rally and many packed up to go to Westlake rally.

I'm glad you don't "declare revolution" as you said. Nor do I, however there's a bit of hipocrisy here. When Bush was president, plenty of people protested, and it was fine. Now when these people are questioning this administration, democrats are crying foul. Where's the double standard there? The fact that the Democrats ignored the Repulican alarm about the finacial industry cannot be glossed over. Both parties have a hand in this, but at least there is proof that some of congress tried to fix this before it got to this point....some democrats included. Greenspan stated in Feb. of 05 that "enabling these institutions to increase in size....we are putting the total finacial system of the future at substantial risk." I'm sure you'd agree that no matter who's on watch (D or R), if a bill cannot get out of committee, it doesn't stand a chance. S.190 could have helped us avoid this mess. Also in 03, HR 1461 tried to put more regulations in place....to no avail.

massive deregulation throughout 8 years of Bush's white house, plus unprecedented spending (outdoing any "tax and spend" democrat in history)... come on... you just can't pretend to ignore it. Your guy was on watch (and had been for an extended time) when the house fell... plain and simple. All the pretending in the world that he wasn't just doesn't wash... that said... President Bush (despite the fact that I didn't vote for him) was MY president as well. I don't declare revolution like some of these idiots every time someone I didn't vote for... or who is fronting fiscal policies I don't necessarily support comes into office.

Yessir, sorry, it's not comedy...it's fact. There's plenty of C-Span coverage of exactly what I stated. I may agree that with ANY administration many people profit from actions of an administration. However, in 1999 Clinton signed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. This, as he even stated, "establishes the principles that, as we expand the powers of banks, we will expand the reach of the [Community Reinvestment] Act." Yes, the war spending was extreme....but we're talking about the banking industry....stay on topic. Rep. Gregory Meeks (D) put it perfectly in 2004 when, after the inquest, he stated "there has been nothing that's been indicated thats been wrong with, uh, Fannie Mae...Freddie Mac..." Or a Maxine Water (D) quote (2004) of "Mister chairman we do not have a crisis at Freddie Mac or in particular at Fannie Mae under the outstanding leadership of Mr. Frank Raines." Mr. Frank Raines was one of the major contributing factors to the subprime mortgage crisis.

hilarious twist... it'd make good comedy... but alas... anyone who tries to contend 8 years of deregulation, tremendous war spending, and utter fiscal mismanagement by President Bush's administration, is either blindly oblivious, or intentionally deceptive on the matter. I will tell you what did happen during that time frame though... CEO's of companies profiting from the war in Iraq, and those of the oil companies akin to Bush's family ties did exceptionally well during his regime... as did insurance company heads. Nah.... it was the republicans fault... but you know... as much as I might not appreciate the repubs... I appreciate they have a cancer in their own party...the good old tea baggers aren't quite the "friends of the republicans" than many republicans hope... Sure the party is trying to use Palin to control the movement... but will one mildly unintelligent former governor (remember... she QUIT) control a bunch of right wing nutjobs going too extreme for even the republicans?

@ those who believe the repulicans started the financial crisis; While I don't follow the teaparty, here's some education. The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) opened the door for the financial crisis. The CRA was initially started by Carter in 1977. Clinton then turbocharged it through regulatory changes. In late 2004, when the legislature had a hearing to investigate Fannie and Freddy's book keeping, Republicans stated concerns over a potential disaster and suggested regulations in regards to this. Democrat reps Maxine Waters (CA), Gregory Meeks (NY), Artur Davis (AL), Barney Frank (MASS), Lacy Clay (Miss), and others...all said there was no issue and argued against any regulation. NO REGULATION! In 2005 Greenspan warned of a financial collapse because of this. In 2005, whether you like it or not, republicans introduced s.190, which would have put regulations in place. It was shot down in commitee by the Democrats before it could even get to the floor and be debated. OOPS.

End the wars against nations and secure our energy independence. Create jobs here and stop funding corporations that send jobs abroad. Regulate the financial industry that stole our money by gambling on derivatives and ensure health-care for all (public option) Build a strong economy...strong middle class. Then he can turn to campaign reform to prevent corporations from buying any votes they want. He supports civil rights and the environment. He is on the correct side of these issues which represents the hopes of the American people. Socialism? (like Medicare and Social Security) Hitler?.... keep spewing that ignorance. Only ignorant, stupid, foolish people think you have to support one of the two main parties. Keep it up Teabaggers..... and thank you for showing our nation how the right represents low information haters. Where are you on financial reform? The GOP is backing Wall Street and big money vs the middle class. Repeal the Bush tax breaks for the super-rich and wind down the wars to lower the deficit that they created. Obama raising taxes? A look at the numbers tells a different story. For starters: the non-partisan Center for Budget and Policy Priorities reported on Wednesday that "Middle-income Americans are now paying federal taxes at or near historically low levels." How low? The average family of four right now is paying 4.6 percent of its income in federal income taxes -- the second lowest percentage in 50 years. Love America...the future is bright with Obama

It's nice to see that, as usual, all the Left has are the standard, tired old Alinskyite tactics of slander and character assassination instead of coherent thought. November will be a bloodbath for the Left, they're terrified and it shows. The Tea Party Patriots are the driving force that will ultimately derail and repeal ZeroCare and save America from the Socialist leviathan....they are the true voice of mainstream America and their effectiveness causes the Left to become utterly unhinged, as evidenced by their shrill rhetoric, their silly attempts to paint Tea Partiers as 'racists' and 'homophobes' and the media's efforts to dismiss Tea Partiers as 'just a bunch of angry old racist white guys' . It's just laughable that they have to embark upon a coordinated effort to infiltrate Tea Parties with their operatives to shout racist slogans and hold racist, misspelled signs up for the TV cameras in an effort to paint the Tea Partiers as irrelevant, fringe hicks. Keep at it Lefties.
