TACOMA -- Tacoma's Human Rights Director said a recent remodel of her office that cost $14,000 may not have been the best idea.
Linda Bremer recently remodeled her office, having a new desk and bookcase built by city carpenters.
"In retrospect, looking back on it now, it was bad timing on my part and as a lesson to do things differently," Bremer said.
The story first appeared in the political blog The New Takhoman.
Tacoma department heads are allotted $15,000 in discretionary funds, so no approval was needed for the remodel.
The remodel comes in the middle of a city budget shortfall and layoffs. Bremer's department laid-off one employee last year and is facing cuts.
Her old furniture was given to another worker in a different office.
