SUQUAMISH, Wash. - Police in Kitsap County are investigating an officer involved shooting in Suquamish.

Suquamish Police say the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday on the Suquamish reservation. Officers responded to a report of a disturbance on Newton Street with multiple shots fired.

When officers arrived and contacted people outside the house, one man ran to his vehicle and drove into two officers, injuring both of them.

Both officers fired at the driver, who was hit by gunfire. A female passenger in the car was also injured.

The suspects fled the scene, went to a nearby residence to get help from friends, and got into a different vehicle to seek medical aid.  When they realized they needed immediate medical assistance, they drove to the Suquamish Police Department to get help.

The male suspect was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of gunshot wounds. The female was taken to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton with non-life threatening injuries.

Paramedics took both officers to Harrison Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office says the male suspect is a 34-year-old "career criminal" with an extensive history of drug dealing, with 9 prior felony convictions for burglary, drug dealing and possession of drugs, as well as assault and intimidating witnesses.  He also has 12 prior misdemeanor convictions for multiple crimes, including displaying weapons with intent to intimidate.  He currently had a Felony "No Bail" "Caution" warrant for his arrest, for escape from the Washington State Department of Corrections on "community custody" for Drug Charges.

Suquamish Police Chief Mike Lasnier said in a press release that the officers "had a duty and obligation to respond and act, and they did so with a great deal of courage and professionalism."

"Anyone who attacks and attempts to murder police officers, whether with a gun, a knife, or the car used in this incident, should expect that any officer will respond in the same manner," he said.

After recovering from their injuries, the officers will be on administrative duties.  Both officers are veterans of the department.

The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office and the Washington State Patrol are investigating.

It's obvious that Sean Major (the referred to suspect )has a long list of juvenie and adult problems with the law. First of all the escape from the Washington State Department of Corrections on "community custody" equates to not showing up to his meeting with his probation officer! Secondly, there was no murder attempt against the officers. Sean made a bad decision in trying to avoid getting arrested and unfortunately hit the two officers in his attempt to escape. Now he's paying for his stupidity laying in the hospital with 3 bullet wounds! I sincerely hope the officers are going to be alright and believe they did what they had to.

What does the location or being a reservation have to do with this crime inforelife? I did not read anything bout it being a member of the tribe or that he used a fishing net. Sounds to me like your reading into it more than is there. The next thing we will here from you; should have some merit to the story and case. Sorry that the passenger got wounded. A victom of association. Not saying she is gilty or anything like that, but maybe she should chose her friends better, or atleast watch who she gets into a car with next time.

explain to me why we taxpayers are obligated to provide this scumbag with a $10,000 life flight to Harborview after he tried to kill two officers, when an ambulance ride across the ferry would get him there. So, now Christopher Monfort wil have a roommate, at our expense, all meals provided, clean linens every day, laundry facilities, bathing facilities... let's see how many homeless folks could use those benefits. Oh, and just out of curiosity, what does state of the art care at Harborview cost nowdays?? That's right, I do know. I spent two weeks there for surgery, and it cost me most of my retirement money, and my home is in foreclosure now that I'm on disability. Where's the justice here????

I live next door to where the shooting took place.. It was on Nelson St not on Newton St as reported by King 5. This was a very frightening experience and unusual for our neighborhood. The police were outside all night investigating the incident. The police did an outstanding job in a very dangerous situation. I thank the stars every day they are out there for all of us 24-7! Also, there were firefighters out at the scene all night as well! THANK YOU to both of these outstanding public servants! As for the people who got shot, you don;t deserve a comment or my energy!

What in the world is this career criminal doing on the streets. He definitely is not working and it seems he hasn't change his criminal habits. Throw him in jail and throw the key away. This guy is a real 3 time loser.
