How’s this for a fabulous selfie? Simon Fraser University (B.C.) Pipe Band drum major Jason Paguio led the Tunes of Glory band at Saturday’s New York Tartan Day Parade and decided to snap a photo as the parade wound its way through Manhattan.

“I was hoping I wouldn’t get into trouble,” Paguio said with a chuckle.

Paguio is a four-time World Champion Drum Major and is the Executive Director for the World Drum Major Association, Inc. and is President and CEO of the Parade Band Foundation Inc. Both are nonprofit groups.

The Foundation works to keep the American parade band tradition alive in communities, showcasing youth and their involvement in music on parade and on stage.

New York’s Tartan Week is a series of events coordinated by the Tartan Week Alliance and the National Tartan Day New York Committee.

Designated a national holiday in 1998 by the US Senate, National Tartan Day is a celebration of all things Scottish and the contribution of millions of Scottish Americans. The date is the anniversary of the Declaration of Arbroath (1320), a declaration of Scottish independence.
