SEATTLE - Heavy rain in the Puget Sound area caused some accidents and snarled traffic on Monday morning.

A tree fell on power lines on Juanita Drive in the Kenmore area, just north of 143rd street. The road was closed while Puget Sound Energy made repairs. At one point, 1,500 customers were without power.

Flooding in Kent turned a busy road into a lake. This morning's rain sent mill creek spilling over its banks and onto 76th Avenue South.

Several inches of water pooled across the street, but the road remained open.

Drivers attempted to avoid the deepest areas by keeping to the middle of the road.

The City of Kent says flooding is a consistent problem in the area during rainy months.

The rain is causing rivers to rise. A flood warning has been issued for the Tolt River near Carnation. The National Weather Service says the Snoqualmie River is at risk for later tonight.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for the Olympics and the Cascades until 5 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service says a cold front will bring 6 to 12 inches of snow to the mountains through Tuesday morning, with heavier amounts possible between Stevens and Snoqualmie passes as a Puget Sound convergence zone develops.

The snow level is expected to drop to 2,500 feet.

If conditions are right, up to 18 inches of snow could fall on Stevens Pass.

Another front will bring a period of rain to Western Washington on Wednesday night into Thursday, and rising snow level could cause some rivers to rise again.

Another cold front is expected to again drop snow levels by later Thursday.
