Two Washington State Patrol vehicles collided while chasing a stolen car that had earlier been pulled over on Interstate 5 near Everett Tuesday morning.

It started just after midnight when troopers stopped the black Dodge Avenger on southbound I-5 near Paine Field, according to Trooper Mark Francis. A male passenger was removed at gunpoint, but the car was then driven away with another male and a female still inside.

The car exited about three miles later and continued onto surface streets near Lynnwood, where two WSP cars collided.

The Avenger got back onto southbound on I-5 and was last seen exiting at the Boeing Access Road in Seattle.

Both troopers involved in the crash were taken to Harborview Medical Center. One had a concussion and a broken finger. The other had leg injuries.

The man who was arrested before the chase admitted to swallowing a bag of heroin and was taken to the hospital, Francis said.

There was no immediate description of the people who drove off in the Avenger.
