SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- Monday night, two Washington State Patrol troopers were investigating a collision on Interstate 5 northbound near the Roanoke exit when a black Honda crashed into them.
"The Honda was in the same lane as the accident. It hit one of the WSP cars, which then hit the other one, setting off a chain reaction," said WSP Sgt. David Kaiser.
The WSP troopers had emergency lights flashing, and flares in the road when the car hit them.
"The driver said he saw the lights, but still ran into the cars. He said he was going about 40 miles an hour," said Sgt. Kaiser.
The driver was administered a breathalyzer test and was arrested on the charge of driving under the influence. One of the WSP troopers had minor injuries.
This is not the first time that troopers became part of an accident. In 2008, WSP troopers were involved in 25 accidents, and half were during car collision investigations on the side of the road.
