SEATTLE – A woman who disappeared from Snohomish County 18 years ago, leaving her husband and son behind, has been found alive in California.

Judith Bello vanished Dec. 13, 1993 after leaving her job at National Food Corporation in Sylvana with a friend, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Bello didn’t pick up her son from daycare and did not make it back to her home in Stanwood. Her car was later found abandoned at a post office.

The investigation into her disappearance remained open. She was featured on a deck of playing cards given to detectives that profiled 52 unsolved missing persons and homicide cases in the county. Bello was the eight of hearts.

Last week, a woman claiming to be Bello called sheriff’s detectives, indicating she was living in California. She called after seeing her profile on the sheriff’s office website. Detectives were able to confirm it was Bello.

The sheriff’s office said Bello left Washington due to domestic issues with her husband. It’s still not clear why she did not contact her family or police to let them know she was OK, nor why she chose California.

Wow! Why would she leave her son with an abusive person? I doubt he was abusive. She just wanted to run off and avoid the responsibility of raising a family. My ex did this. It has now finally caught up with her and she will have to pay all that child support back before her son turns 28 to her former spouse and son. She really didn't avoid anything at all. She just now will be one poor woman, both financially and emotionally.

I like the comment about child support. This woman had best be having some wage garnishment going on to pay the husbands cost of raising the child alone!

This looks as if it was written as a last minute filler piece. The town's name of S-I-L-V-A-N-A, WA is even misspelled. If the spelling wasn't even checked; what about the rest of the story?

I can't figure out why she would have chosen California either.

The story is very vague. They said she left with a friend. What kind of a "Friend"? A Lover? You can speculate this so many ways..

Glad she was safe but wow, she must have felt very desperate to disappear like that.

There is nothing to this story, it is really nothing except she left and came back thats pretty much all this story says.

Imagine how much she's going to owe in back child support.

What the story doesn't tell you is that she was the one who was abusive. Verbally with both and physically with her husband. She belongs in jail. That child was better off without her.

I can understand a victim of abuse leaving like that but I sure will never understand leaving behind any children.

Nothing like rushing to judgement on someone you don't know. Hopefully everything works out well for this woman.

Sounds fishy. I think there's more to this story, and she's using her husband for a scape-goat.

If it was a domestic abuse, why did she leave her son behind?

Strange story. Why drop out for 18 years and now decide to surface. Don't believe for a minute her story about seeing her picture. She sounds like one very SICK person. I really feel bad for her husband and son. Dad may not be great, but what about your son?
