Sound Transit’s Sounder commuter train began service from Lakewood and South Tacoma for the first time Monday.
It’s good news for people in Pierce County who previously picked up the train by the Tacoma Dome, but it could mean less room for passengers who jump on board in Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn, Kent and Tukwila. Sound Transit expects an additional 750 to 1,000 passengers to hop on at the two new stops.
Sound Transit hopes to add more trains to accommodate the increase in passengers, which has grown by more than 10 percent in the past year.
The full trip between Lakewood and Seattle takes 72 minutes.
