8 slides close North Cascades Highway indefinitely

The Washington State Department of Transportation has closed State Route 20 indefinitely after heavy rains caused eight mudslides along the highway August 10 and 11, 2013.

The North Cascade Highway was covered by eight different slides Saturday night according to the Department of Transportation.

The DOT said Sunday afternoon that the road will remain closed indefintely due to incoming storms and the slides.

SR 20 is closed between milepost 147, the winter gate closure, to milepost 157, Rainy Pass and the Chelan County Line.

DOT crews are working to clear the road.

State Route 20 is the northernmost route across the Cascade Mountain Range.
