One week after the Skagit River Bridge collapsed and closed a mile and a half section of Interstate 5, tourism officials are promoting local businesses so the closure doesn't affect their bottom line.
"It’s definitely getting a little scary," said Nikki Rambow, owner of Nikki's Espresso in Mount Vernon.
The Skagit County tourism group is now posting online promotions with detours to local communities.
Officials in La Conner are also reminding Seattle drivers that it doesn't take a detour to get to local businesses.
To help travelers pass the collapsed bridge, the Washington state-sponsored Amtrak Cascades train service has rolled out more daily between Seattle and Bellingham. The temporary round trip will depart Seattle at 8:15 a.m. and departs Bellingham at 5:15 p.m.
