TACOMA, Wash. – The man who shot and killed an armored truck driver inside a Lakewood, Wash., Walmart last June will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Calvin Finley, 35, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced Friday for the aggravated first-degree murder of Kurt Husted, 38. Husted had just picked up cash and checks inside the store when he was shot.
Because the crime involved a gun, Finley was sentenced to an additional 25 years.
Friday's sentencing was originally supposed to be in January. It was delayed after attorneys brought up a legal issue that concerns that the conviction could be overturned on appeal.
Finley did not speak at his sentencing, but the loved ones Husted left behind did.
"You shattered our lives, but you shattered your own and your family and friends," Husted's fiancé, Deborah Bishop, told Finley. "All of those people that love you, you also hurt."
"He was murdered on my birthday," said Husted's sister, Kristen Talley
Four other people have been charged: Marshawn Turpin; Odies Walker; Tonie Marie Williams-Irby and Brittney Marie Maas-Baines.
Prosecutors say Turpin grabbed the money after Husted was shot, Walker was the getaway driver and Williams-Irby was a store employee who helped plan the robbery. They have all pleaded not guilty.
Maas-Baines pleaded guilty to rendering criminal assistance and obstructing police.
