A semi driver attempting a right turn onto First Avenue ended up with the truck stuck under the Pioneer Square pergola.
Witness Matthew Anchorage said he was sitting at the Starbucks when he saw the semi come down off of James Street.
“My first words were ‘I hope you’re not taking a right-hand turn,’” he said. “So he takes a right-hand turn, gets wedged up on the curb, when he’s wedged up on the curb he’s about 20, 22 inches off the ground, and then when he backs up he ends up getting wedged on the pole over there, so now he’s sitting on a pole, and literally destroyed his truck trailer, and now, here we are.”
“It peeled his trailer like it was an aluminum can.”
The truck was later pulled free.
