SEATTLE – Police are searching for a hit and run driver who took off after hitting a bicyclist early Friday morning, but a witness saw it happen and led police to the truck involved.
It happened around 2 a.m. in the 5200 block of East Marginal Way S. Officers say both the cyclist and truck were traveling in the left lane heading southbound when the driver allegedly hit the cyclist from behind.
The cyclist, 25, went to the ground when his tire burst. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, although he had not been wearing a helmet.
Police at the scene say another driver followed the truck to get the license plate. Officers located and impounded the truck, but the driver has not been found.
Last week, another hit and run driver killed bicyclist Mike Wang in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood. A $1,000 reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers to find that driver.
