SEATTLE - Don't be confused if you find grass and chairs in your favorite metered parking spot in Seattle Friday. It's the annual Park(ing) Day, when people all over the world take over parking spots and turn them into mini-parks as part of an eco-friendly push.
Nearly 70 on-street parking spaces across Seattle will be occupied by the public parks between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
"The point is to draw attention to how much space cars take up in our urban environment and how public space is used," said Max, one of the Seattle organizers.
Organizers say they have the proper permits from the city and that the event is legal. They advise drivers to keep their cars at home and take the bus into downtown.
