SEATTLE – When the Elliott Bay Book Comapny left Seattle's Pioneer Square for a new Capitol HIll location, Pioneer Square business owners put out a call to artists to come and help revitalize the neighborhood.
The Storefront Project is accepting applications from artists to decorate empty storefront windows and occupy empty retail spaces in Pioneer Square and the International District.
Property owners are being asked to donate their empty spaces to the selected artists who will use the space for a period of at least three months.
So far, ten spaces have been donated as part of the project, which is being funded by the city and business owners in the two neighborhoods.
The program is modeled after a successful similar project in Tacoma called Spaceworks.
