Seattle police say they're prepared to increase patrols for this weekend’s NFC Championship Game between the Seahawks and 49ers.

In addition to the extra officers at CenturyLink Field, patrols will be ramped up across the city.

"We just want to make sure that if there is an incident that happens away from the stadium, that we're prepared to handle that," said Mark Jamieson, SPD Spokesman.

Jamieson says with the Super Bowl on the line between two intense rivals, fans will be riled up, win or lose.

"I can imagine Capitol Hill will be very busy, U District will be very busy," he said.

At Century Link Field, SPD will have officers on foot, in cars, on bikes and on horseback patrolling the area in conjunction with other agencies.

Officers will also be wearing team jerseys to keep an undercover watch out for any trouble, too.

"So far this season, we've had no major incidents," said Jamieson.

Be ready for tough traffic, too.

KING 5's Tracy Taylor says northbound Interstate 5 will be difficult getting into the city leading up to the game. Here are alternate routes to try, although they'll all see overflow from the I-5 traffic:

  • 1st Avenue South
  • 4th Avenue South
  • Airport Way
  • Northbound SR 99
