The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said Monday they have arrested a Seattle Police Officer and booked him into jail for first degree child molestation and communication with a minor for immoral purposes.
The suspect, a 57-year-old Bothell resident, has been with Seattle Police for more than 20 years, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said
They said the arrest follows an investigation launched on June 18 by detectives after allegations were made that the officer had molested his former girlfriend’s daughter on several occasions between 2009 and 2013.
The victim was between the ages of 7 and 11 at the time of the alleged crimes.
KING 5 spoke to neighbors and friends of the officer, who said he was a motorcycle cop who enjoyed his job and could often be found directing traffic outside Safeco Field on game days. They say he was looking forward to retirement from the police department.
Neighbors also say the man's ex-girlfriend and the alleged victim lived with him for a short period of time in his Bothell home.
"I'd seen the girl riding around on her scooter and stuff like that," said neighbor Bryan Leonard. "I can't remember what she called him, if she called him daddy or what, because she was really young when she first moved in."
Leonard says he's stunned by the allegations, and is hoping for both the girl's sake and the officer's sake that they're not true.
"We'll see what the court has to say and how it all plays out," he said.
SPD released only a brief statement regarding the arrest, saying that the officer was placed on administrative leave on June 18th, when the department learned of the Snohomish County investigation
