SEATTLE -- The Seattle City Attorney's Office has filed to close a strip club in Seattle's University District neighborhood.

The Seattle City Attorney's Office requested Thursday that the King County Superior Court close the "adult cabaret" club Jiggles because it violates building and zoning codes.

Jiggles opened in December, replacing the comedy club Giggles at 5220 Roosevelt Way N.E. It is directly across the street from a private elementary school.

Neighbors questioned whether an adult business could operate so close to a school. Concerns about parking, alcohol licenses, and city code were also brought up.

Thursday, the City Attorney's Office cited Jiggles violates codes because it is located within 800 feet of a school, child care center, community center and public park.

Davis has made his money by filing lawsuits over strip clubs, not by running them. He has won 3 lawsuits already, and raked in over a million dollars between the cities of Bothell and Seattle. He is most certainly looking for a 4th taxpayer-funded payout, but I think this time he'll get hisass handed to him on a platter by the federal judge. The last time he was in court, the judge specifically upheld the zoning requirement that strip clubs be located 800 feet from schools and parks. He may have been able to push the rule if he'd located, say 600 feet from one, but no way in hades will a judge uphold this location. I hope he is forced to pay all the court costs this time around when he loses. The man is a lawsuit-happy scumbag. BTW, it's not as if no one can open a strip club in this town anymore. Dream Girls managed to get all the right business permits a year ago, so clearly Davis could have opened a legal club if he'd wanted to. He just wants to file another lawsuit.

Just to be clear on all this - Bob Davis was granted a business permit by the city to open a nightclub/restaurant, not a strip club. They are different business permits, with different zoning requirements. Davis knew he could not get a strip club permit for that site, because it is across the street from an elementary school. So he deliberately got the night club permit instead, then illegally opened the strip club. He knew he had the wrong permit from the very beginning.

Um FYI king5 you cant serve liquor in a strip club in washington state so the statement about getting a license is kind of a silly one to put in there dont you think?

The state can put a liquor store near a daycare, but you can't have a strip club near a school? If they had the curtains open, it would be a problem. Ad it is, it is just a business that some women are jealous of, and most men are to cowardly to stand up them.

chuckstr76 - I think you missed the point I was making. Let me talk in a language you might understand. Instead of riding into town like Dudley Do right, The DA should be more concerned about the real and actual threats that are all around that school. Snidely Whiplash and his cronies are in a cabin overlooking Belle’s school. Yet Dudley is across the street arresting Lanny McCree the bar owner. Get it??

Gritz, Shutting down this business is NOT going to change the number of sex offenders living near this school. Check your own address, you may be suprised at how many live by your house.

You want to know why this story does not make any sense. It is just another example of King 5's spotty news coverage. Apparently the owner listed the property as a restaurant and that is how he got approval. He then changed the business to adult entertainment that also happens to sell food. That is why it is in violation, after the fact. I also happened to wonder; Wow here’s a public servant doing the peoples work. Protecting all those kids from that terrible business where females are gawked at. No telling what type of creeps might be lingering nearby. So I did a search of child offenders that are in a ¼ mile of the school and guess what? There is sixteen of them level two and three, child rapist that past this school daily. There watching the kiddies getting on and off the bus, walking by themselves home. These very same threats to the children are registered and the State knows they are there. Yet, the DA does nothing about it. What is the bigger threat here?

Parking and alcohol licenses were brought up? What a bunch of BS. The former establishment sold alcohol and I am fairly sure that the patrons drove their cars there as well. This is a bunch of prude fatties and mini-van driving soccer moms that don't want their husbands and boyfriends going there to see other women. Go on a diet and get some exercise and maybe your husband will stay home!

If I were the owner of this establishment, I would be suing the Seattle City Attorney's office. The owner did nothing wrong if the city approved their permits. END OF STORY.

It's interesting that the city has created building and zoning codes that enable it shut down pretty much any business that it wants. You might feel good about that when it comes to a strip club, but imagine the power it gives the city to take retribution on any business owner that rubs it the wrong way. Speak out against the city, and all the sudden you are getting an inspector telling you about some obscure code that you are in violation of. No thanks.

I do not think it is okay for this place to be near a school. But I do think the City should give this guy every penny he poured into it from the moment they gave him permission to open it, if they are going to shut it down. Or at least take care of the costs of getting him set up in a different location that works for both the city and the owner. It was the City that made the mistake here by allowing him to open the business in the first place.

How in the hell did the business get the licenses to begin with then??? The owner has money out to get this place opened, now the city wants to shut him down? Who is going to reimburse this guy?

This after the city already granted the permits. More proof of bureaucratic incompetence.
