SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. – A school bus with 36 children on board rolled over Wednesday afternoon, but all the kids on board just have minor bumps and bruises.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. near the intersection of Buckland Road and Nelson Road near Conway, south of Mount Vernon.

The school bus was driven by a 41-year-old female substitute bus driver for the Conway School District. She had been on the job for only two days.

The bus has come from Conway School to take the children home.

The children ranged from 5 to 14 years old and suffered only minor bumps and bruises, according to aid crews.

Investigators say the substitute driver was momentarily distracted when she looked down at her route map, taking her eyes off the road.

No other vehicles were involved.

The Skagit County Sheriff's Office will determine if the driver will be cited.

They have changed the names of several of the stories that have been posted the last few days. This one they keep the same just to mess with us.

Definition of rollover: 1 : the act or process of rolling over 2 : a motor vehicle accident in which the vehicle overturns Look it up, whoever you are, King5 staffer. It looks a lot like this bus tipped to one side. Look up "sensationalism," too, while you're at it.

Roll over ? looks like a tip over. Please don't exagerate NWCN. The news is suppose to be fact not fiction. Glad everyone is OK ! Maybe sub drivers should be given more paided time to go over their routes and maps before they go out on them. Tough job, school bus driving, not for the faint of heart or for those prone to road rage ! (: like I picture inforelife having :)

Where's the Democrats now? We got to get these school buses out of the hands of criminals, cause now they're starting to use the buses as weapons of mass destruction. Com'n Chris, get the gang together.

My sister did something like that with a school bus once. Glad no one was seriously injured.

Yeah. Other new outlets reporting it tipped and not rolled like other outlets are saying.

I am glad to hear the chiltrens are ok. That being said, that bus did NOT roll over. It is tipped on it's side as someone else stated already. Believe it or not, there is a big difference.

As quoted from another local news source "Some students reported scrapes, bumps and sore stomachs from being rolled around. School Principal Deenie Berry said parents were picking up the students at the accident scene at Burkland Road and Cedardale Road. Washington State Patrol said the bus driver is a substitute driver and has only been on the job for two days. Troopers said the driver was looking down at a route map when she went into the ditch." So yes, the kids did suffer some injuries.

The driver was reading a map trying to find the right way to go.Almost if not just as bad as texting while driving. They will get an inattention to driving ticket and get fired for this. Glad the kids are alright

I am glad to hear that the kids are mostly ok. Most bus accidents are pretty survivable in a ti- over like this. It looks as if the bus drifted and caught the ditch and rolled over. Again, glad to hear they are ok.

collegekid, um, maybe you were texting and cut the bus off? Far more likely in this situation.

Being a bus driver myself....Maybe the driver was doing his/her job but sometime the kids can stand or fight or whatever kids do to distract the driver. Has anyone driven with that many kids onboard? I am glad that they didn't get hurt too badly. It is a hard job to drive in a new area even if you have lived there all your life. Driving a school bus takes a lot of patiences and skills. I hope people realize how hard it is to drive the buses with kids and everything that "we" as drivers have to do. Maybe the driver did the best thing by what they did. Cut them some slack, please. School buses don't have seatbelts for the kids only for the driver. That is a safety thing.

Judging from the pictures that were not present earlier, I agree that escaping without injury is quite possible. Roll over to me means bus upside down. This is what I would consider tipped over. Just a difference in terminology I suppose. Agreed though, good thing there were no injuries.

The good news is that school buses are built like tanks and risk of injury is low.

@wittyname.... Children are far more likely to survive and accident uninjured vs. adults. They are much more elastic so to speak. Doesn't surprise me at all that none were injured and good to hear.

Speedracer: No there are no seat belts on school busses. Thought is that a lap belt would make the child's head snap foward and the face would hit the metal back of the seat in front. That may be outdated info.

A bus rolls over and none of the children inside are hurt? I doubt that. At the very least there are minor bumps and bruises but more than likely at least a few would probably have some sort of head trauma, sprains, dislocations, maybe a broken bone or two. These type of injuries are likely with adults in the same situation and even more so for children.
