POULSBO, Wash. - The Kimmels now think of their neighbors as guardian angels next door.

When Gail Kimmel saw her garage on fire Saturday morning, she worried about getting her husband out of the house safely.

Denny Kimmel uses a walker to get around and has been confused lately.

"He was away from his walker," said Gail. "He was wobbling around the house and wasn't cooperating with me to get out."

Luckily for Gail, her neighbor, a Navy sailor, ran into the burning home and helped Dennis out of the house.

Within minutes the fire destroyed their Poulsbo home.

"I thought many times if this happened at night, neither one of us would be here," said Gail.

Gail and Denny were not injured and on Tuesday they had reason to celebrate - it was their 53rd wedding anniversary.

"We're blessed," said Gail Kimmel.

Gail said her neighbor is shy and thinks that's why he wasn't interested in doing an interview.

The Poulsbo Fire Department said the cause of the fire is not yet known. The Kimmels are insured, and are staying with family.
