TUKWILA -- Boeing engineers overwhelmingly rejected the company's first contract offer Monday. But a strike is not likely as both sides return to the negotiating table.
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) represents 23,000 engineers.
SPEEA's Executive Director says "All the other stakeholders in the company are being rewarded handsomely. It makes no sense that they come to us and say, 'You're the ones that have to take pay and benefit cuts.'"
Boeing officials said they look foward to resuming negotiations with the union Tuesday.
"Our goal is to reach an agreement as soon as possible," the company said in a statement.
SPEEA's contract expires Saturday.
