Redmond native among seven killed in Afghanistan

A Redmond native was among seven Army Special Operations Command soldiers killed in a helicopter crash Monday in western Afghanistan, the Seattle Times reports.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael P. Montgomery, 36, was a pilot and electronic-warfare officer.

Montgomery is survived by his mother, Mary Montgomery, of Redmond, and his wife and son, Anita and Riley Montgomery, of Savannah, Ga.

Forty-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Niall Lyons of Spokane was also killed in the crash.

The accident is still is under investigation.

Bless these men for all that they have done as soldiers serving this great nation. These men represent the best of America and deserve the honor and respect of all of us. My heart goes out to their families and loved ones.

My families condolences to the Montgomery and Lyons families on this sad day. Please know that your loved ones ultimate sacrifice will not be forgotten. May they rest in peace.
