SEATTLE -- Seattle Police have decided to devote additional officers to the Rainier Valley neighborhood in an effort to stop violent crimes.

The decision to deploy additional officers to monitor the more troubled areas came from Seattle Police Chief John Diaz, KING 5 News has learned.

Just in the last few months, a number of robberies, beatings and shootings have made neighbors feel unsafe in their own community.

In November, popular hairdresser Danny Vega was attacked by a group of teens and died days later from his injuries.

Since then, residents have held meetings to discuss working with police in order to keep streets safer.
