ISSAQUAH, Wash. - Tuesday night residents can attend a public hearing about the Klahanie potential annexation area. It will take place at 7 p.m. at Issaquah Council Chambers, City Hall South, located at 135 East Sunset Way. It is the first of two required public hearings.

Rob Young is a Klahanie resident who has studied the issue for three years and wants his community to become part of a city.

"When you are unincorporated, you are out here in la-la-land," said Young. "You don't get safety issues and lights or things like that fixed unless it becomes an urgent matter."

Annexation is an issue that has been debated for more than a decade, according to Young.

One study found if Klahanie and some surrounding neighborhoods were annexed to Issaquah, the owner of a home assessed at $320,000 would pay $380 less in taxes and fees.

However, on the Klahanie Choice Facebook page there was some opposition. It reads, "Annexing to Issaquah means taking on their debt, a debt we had no say/influence in."

The Issaquah City Council decided voters should make the call in the February election about whether annexation should be approved.
