TACOMA, Wash. - The day David Crable and his family moved into a two story Spanaway home, the fighting, began according to neighbors. That fighting soon made its way  to the Pierce County court system.

Since 2007, the Crables have filed seven separate domestic violence protection orders. According to court records, in July 2007, brothers David and Jason filed orders against each other.

One year later, they appeared before a judge to ask the order be lifted. According to court papers, David wrote the brothers were getting along and wanted to "do the normal things brothers do in a life, camping, fishing.”

Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Lindquist called the filings "excessive" and said "what you have here, is two brothers and a mother using the court systems as a family counselor."

The court filings, and criminal cases of the Crable clan, fill Lindquist's desk. The county's top prosecutors say the family wouldn't always follow the court orders.

"The families would use the protection orders when it serves their purpose and then ignore the order when it serves their purpose," said Lindquist.

In 2009, David Crable was found guilty of malicious mischief and unlawful carrying of weapons capable of producing bodily harm. Prosecutors say Crable threatened his then 15-year-old daughter with a knife, shoved her face against the wall and slashed the tires of his brother's car. But prosecutors say the victim, Jason, recanted his story.

The case led the State Department of Social and Health Services to launch an investigation. The state found evidence of child abuse. According to investigators, the daughter's grandmother, Patsy Jo Crable, agreed to take the girl to Oregon to get away from the violence.

However, the teenager remained in Spanaway. In a court document dated July 2009, Patsy wrote "I will be moving to Oregon soon and David Crable will be moving back to the house to take care of his daughter.”

State DSHS officials say they were unaware the teenage daughter remained in the state.

Some of the lead critics of DSHS workers here should spend a day in their shoes. Did it occur to you the state is in a terible budget crisis and has had to lay off DSHS people? They are obviously wayy overworked and would probably love to have time to monitor all the homes to make sure things get done like the people said. These same people will probably have a fit if we raise taxes to get these service back to a decent level but that is exactly what should be done. These accusations of waste in government, all liberals want is to tax and spend, no new taxes are wayyyy to simplistic and don't address anything real in any detail. Pardon me, our justice system is not broken. You cannot control the behavior of a highly dysfunctional family with violent members via the law and DSHS. My heart goes out to the DSHS workers. How'd you like that job at low pay?? you may get layed off.... atmosphere????

It was stated in a court document the the child would remain in the state, why wasn't DSHS aware of it? No excuses! Maybe instead of worrying about the future of auto companies, etc, our country should try to focus on the children. After all with out them there is no future. The phrase "lost in the system" should never have to be spoken!

When is DSHS going to get the picture. It is about the child. Ask the child what is going on.. visit the child.. what the heck do your job. I get angry when I hear of DSHS harassing people that do their job as a parent because of false statements between parents usually in custody cases. Let's put the children first in Washington. I thought this was no child left behind state... perhaps I am wrong since his chid is left behind now. We need to change the system NOW... before we lose more kids to the streets and Gangs.. I am sorry they are not throw aways. We can spend our tax dollars now helping these kids or we will spend the tax dollars incarcerating these forgotten children.

"State DSHS officials say they were unaware the teenage daughter remained in the state" Another fine example of case management by this dept.. Want to bet the same old excuse will be used by this case worker.." I just have too many cases to follow up properly on all of them"... Can't wait for an overhaul of this system.
