Local hip hop artist George Quibuyen, a.k.a. Prometheus Brown, wasn't satisfied writing a traditional op-ed piece about recent violence when asked by the Seattle Times.

Instead, he did what he does best -- let his blunt spoken words communicate the urgency to fix the Seattle's divide. Here is part of what he came up with::

Shots fired, south end, nobody cares. Shots fired, north end, everybody scared.
Nothing they can do for us we can't do ourselves. Point the finger at the mirror, nobody else.
Shots fired, parking lot, nobody cares. Shots fired, coffee shop, everybody scared.
Nothing they can do for us we can't do ourselves. Point the finger at the mirror, nobody else.

"Every death is a tragedy," Quibuyen said. "You don't hear about it until the violence reaches a place where it's not considered normal. It's almost like it just takes five minutes of our time to talk about it. I'd like to see that change."

Quibuyen said meetings like the one at Town Hall Seattle Monday night at 7:30 where issues are out in the open are steps in the right direction.

Here is the entire performance from Prometheus Brown's Tumblr blog:
