SEATTLE – A pregnant woman is one of five people injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Seattle Tuesday afternoon.

The accident at 23rd Avenue South and South Massachusetts Street happened at about 4:40 p.m. Video from SkyKING shows a pickup on the shoulder, two SUVs and a passenger car. One of the SUVs is on its side, pinned between the pickup and the car.

Witnesses said a red Bronco apparently lost its brakes and slammed into a Honda Element, rolling it over. Two other vehicles were involved in the collision.

The Seattle Fire Department says one of the victims is a 30-year-old woman who is nine months pregnant. The extent of her injuries was not immediately known. The other four people have minor injuries.

Traffic was shut down on 23rd Avenue South for about 40 minutes.

OK, listen up people... If you are ever driving a vehicle and the brakes fail, shift the vehicle into reverse to force the transmission to lock the wheels.(be ready for an abrupt and violent stop) since the vehicle will stop for sure! It may need transmission work afterward, but that would be far better than crashing into a pregnant woman and damaging multiple vehicles. Not to mention your insurance rates. I'd rather fix a transmission than to end up dead.
