BREMERTON--Workers at Nine Point Growth Industries are preparing to ship out the company’s first orders of retail marijuana. Just this week, the company started packaging 26 pounds of marijuana which will be sold at 5 different retail stores across the state.

With pot stores set to open in July, owner Gregory Stewart said many retailers are still looking for a steady supply.

"Even though supply and demand is a cardinal rule and we could charge a whole lot of money for the product initially because we are one of the few suppliers we don't want to do that. We see it as a long-term effort that we are making here," said Stewart.

As of this week, the Washington State Liquor Control Board reported fewer than 100 licensed pot producers. Some of those growers won't have marijuana ready when stores open.

Stewart said the state won’t allow him to ship the marijuana until the stores receive licenses. The state will start issuing licenses July 7.

"The final steps before we actually have the reality of recreational marijuana in our state, it's very exciting to me," said Stewart.

Stores could open as early as July 8.
