TACOMA, Wash. - Jeremy Miller proudly talks about last weekend's first ever cannabis farmers' market. The director of Sacred Plant Medicine Co-op says he came up with the idea after listening to his customers.

"We have patients come in all the time with extra medicine and they don't know what to do with it, so this in an outlet for that extra medicine because the state only allows them to carry 24 ounces," said Miller.

At the Conquering Lion in Tacoma on Sunday, six vendors set up shop, handing out everything from marijuana to laced cookies and tinctures. Miller says all of it was donated and only those with a doctor's authorization were let in.

"Most patients take donations or, what we do here we actually have member dues, which is used to keep the lights on and pay the rent of the building. It's not for profit, said Miller.

Tacoma police say, not so fast.

"We were not aware of this taking place, so that's what they used and that's how they are trying to get around it," said Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum. He believes this is just another way of skirting the law. "The law dictates who can use medical marijuana how much you can have and how you can access it."

Miller admits they may be pushing it, but believes they are well within the limits of the law.

"I know that there is always a risk, but if anything happens, we're ready for the challenge," said Miller.

The next cannabis farmers' market will be held on October 24 at Conquering Lion. Police say, this time, they'll also be there.

Get back to work police officer and leave the sick to their smokes, they aren't hurting anyone and you are wasting time and tax dollars on a so called war nobody needs to fight.

Even so, I went there with my aunt as a PCA (Personal Care Assistant). I think that should be allowed to the patiants who need assistance. Also, you can't just go to a doctor and pay for a MMJ card. You have to actually NEED it. I think the city is just mad because this was a huge success and their not getting a cut.

I was reading an article in the news Tribune that was titled "Medical pot providers stage farmers market in Tacoma". How was it staged? It was ran by vendors who run dispencaries all over Tacoma and the surrounding area and it was meant to help out MMJ patiants with the LEGAL RIGHT TO HAVE IT and that's exactly what they did. Most places require a BUSINESS LICENSE to even run the dispensaries. Which I'm not sure they all had because I didn't ask them when I was there with my aunt who is an MMJ patiant. They also said "only those with a doctors authoriztion were allowed in" on K5 but that's not 100% true. They were allowing "guests" of the MMJ patiants to go in as well. If the city is THAT worried about this then Sacred Heart needs to change their rules and ONLY allow MMJ patiants inside and maybe possibly not allow consumtion in the building. They gotta do what they gotta do if they are that serious about the Cannabis Farmers Market.

It's funny. Marijuana laws are decades behind our society and so out of touch with reality. It's a plant for Gods sake. Let it go.

You know, they really should pair this up with the Taste of Tacoma... get a little synergy going... cross promote... You've got to know the people at the Pita Pit will be up for it.

I see ads in the little nickel, a doctors note is anywhere from $100 to $200.

Sounds like they might need a marijuana militia to protect them from the executors of the unconstitutional legislation, although it is agreed that the militia's time would be better spent vs. the legislators :) It is both strange and sad that only one side in the War on Marijuana fights it as though it is really a war.

All fun aside,I really think the Police should be doing more important thing's instead of harrassing MMJ patient's.

How much is a doctors note? Arent they like 5 bucks now? It will most likely be decriminalized next year after another vote anyhow. I'll wait.
