Investigators in the Tri-Cities want to know who sold the mortar shell that malfunctioned and ultimately killed a man on the 4th of July.

The 3-inch-diameter mortar malfunctioned and exploded near John Anderson, 61, when he went to check it. He died at the scene.

Chief deputy state fire marshal Dan Johnson says any fireworks mortar that is 2 inches in diameter or larger is professional grade and only can be sold to licensed pyrotechnicians.
