Phoenix police and fire have called off the search for the rest of the day on Camelback Mountain for a missing Washington man. Authorities say that if they get a tip, they will head back to search.
Photos of Eric Fernandes have been posted at the trail heads. He was last seen two days ago, according to a police spokesman.
Fernandes, 23, has been visiting the Valley with his father and was last seen Saturday when Fernandes said he wanted to try hiking Camelback Mountain, according to police.
Fernandes' father reported him missing on Sunday and police began searching the area then, according to a police spokesman.
Investigators found Fernandes' car at a Camelback trail head and have recovered receipts that indicate he bought a hydration backpack and some water, according to a police spokesman.
Fernandes' cellphone died on Saturday and the last signals that investigators were able to recover placed the phone in the Glendale area, where Fernandes was staying with his father, according to a police spokesman.
Police said Ferndandes hikes at home, but he is not used to the types of temperatures or terrain he would have encountered on Camelback this weekend.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151.
