BREWSTER, Wash. - Police in the northcentral Washington city of Brewster say they've arrested a 17-year-old boy and seized guns after investigating a tip that he wrote on Facebook about plans for a school shooting in 2011.

In a statement, Police Chief Ron Oules says the teen was booked into the Okanogan County Juvenile Detention Center for investigation of conspiracy to commit assault.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say the tip came from parents of a 14-year-old girl from Port Alberni, British Columbia, who had contact via Facebook with the boy.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Lee Omilusik says his agency no longer considers the girl a suspect.

The Brewster police chief has said administrations of possible target schools were notified. He has refused to say what kind of weapons were seized, what led police to believe the plan was credible and what the motive might have been.

Brewster School Superintendent Aaron Chavez said Monday that the boy arrested Saturday was a student at Brewster High School. Chavez says programs at his school are continuing as normal.
