SEATTLE - A woman is recovering at Harborview Medical Center after she was injured a plane crash that killed the pilot. The small propeller plane went down Friday evening in the front yard of a rural home outside Morton.

Family members say Shane Sullivan died in the crash. He's a Bellevue resident, a father of two young girls, and he was the pilot of the plane that went down. He's also the owner of Cascade Risk Insurance, and colleagues say he was flying with a business associate named Rebecca Carroll.

Witnesses say the plane was coming in from the west, clipped a tree, and then crashed in the front yard near a chicken coop.

"The noise was unreal so I knew there was something wrong," said witness Bob Thomas.

The residents say they were not home at the time, but Thomas was across the street and ran over to help.

"They were both pinned in the plane itself," said Thomas.

Carroll was airlifted to Harborview and was listed in serious condition Saturday morning.

National Traffic Safety Board investigators are working to figure out what caused the crash.

"Some of these do have system that do have data that is recorded that assists us in investigation," said Kristi Dunks / NTSB Air Safety Investigator.

The plane crashed just short of an open field across the street. They think maybe that was the intended target.

"I think if he would have a few more feet up above he would have made it there... but it's a sad deal," said Thomas.

Family and friends are mourning the pilot, who they call a successful businessman and a well-liked community leader.

"He was just a very dedicated man in everything, life, family, his company, his employees, and will be greatly missed," said Sullivan's wife, Heather.

mystyd77 - If this is your cousin then set up a website for family and friends to mourn. This is a PUBLIC FORUM... Not a family memorial website.

@ commando: I just watched the movie, thanks to your advice. Man, toward the end of the movie, I was crying, and I was cussing at the SOB who mortally wounded her. A woman can have an affair. I mean everybody can. That doesn't mean you can crash your plane to commit murder suicide. Damm SOB!

I can't believe the insensitivity of some people! This was my cousin! He was a wonderful person, father, and husband! He would never intentionally hurt anyone and I'm sure he did everything in his power to land safely. While you people are getting your kicks out of being complete jerks our family is mourning! He left behind 2 little girls and a wife and he will be greatly missed! Please stop bashing him and making horrid remarks!

There wasn't any parking space near my work this morning. Because that got me in bad mood, I'm going to say something really mean. ----> This may not be an accident, guys. Maybe, the pilot intended a murder suicide. Have you guys seen 'The English Patient?' That was a good movie. If you haven't seen it, go see it.

bmore80 - If you're looking for sensitivity, visit Twitter or MySpace. This is a PUBLIC FORUM and people are free to express any opinion that the wish. Which is also a place that people often vent their frustrations and make sarcastic comments that may be considered insensitive in the event of a family tragedy.

Finding the death of a great husband, father and friend humorous absolutely disgusts me. I feel sorry for all of you that have made these insensitive and vulgar posts.

ddw3579 - Wow. You are very knowledgeable in this area. He may very well have been trying to save the aircraft. I can understand if he didn't want to look bad and be a Captain Sully and save the machine. Landing in water and landing in a field is two different animals, Am I right?

This is why every small plane must have a Toyota engine!

When an engine quits in that type of aircraft and you are over 1500ft above the ground you pull the aircraft parachute handle and you will come down pretty gently. Yes the aircraft is a loss but everyone is safe. I hope this is not the case where training was thrown out over saving a machine. There is an airport in Morton...I wonder if he had just taken off from there.

I have a feeling those dead chickens will end up in Foster Farms.

I agree. He totally destroyed that plane for sure. He clipped a tree and crashed into a chicken coop. I wonder if any chickens were killed. Free range chickens usually leave the coop and area during the day and come back inside in the late evening just before dark.
