A contractor was injured when a piece of heavy equipment fell from the Skagit Bridge construction area, according to the Burlington Police.

Officer Jed Cates confirmed that the victim's arm was crushed.

Washington State Department of Transportation spokesman Travis Phelps said the worker injured was a contractor, not a WSDOT employee.

The victim was transported to a local hospital.

The accident will not impact progress on the bridge.

Construction is underway to replace a temporary span on the Interstate 5 bridge over the Skagit River. The temporary span has been in place since June after a section of the bridge fell into the river on May 23, 2013.
