According to Seattle Fire, the victim was hit by the "Empire Builder" passenger train around 2:10 p.m. near NW Neptune Place and NW Blue Ridge Drive.

Amtrak said 84 people were on the train when the incident happened.

Neighbors told KING 5 News the victim was a woman walking on the tracks wearing headphones, and people yelled to catch her attention before she was hit by the train.

"She" was my friend. What happened to her was tragic accident and a huge loss to her family, friends and the community at large. Not something to make jokes about. Those of you who have left such insensitive comments should all be ashamed. Don't you have anything else to do with you life? You are really pathetic.

Considering every year people are hit and killed on this stretch of tracks. Is walking down them with head phones really the smartest thing this person could have done. I dont know what this people are thinking.

@ukrose - People do have the option of flagging for removal the tasteless comments left by immature people such as whoisyourdaddy and honest_a_hol. They can, of course, just leave more, perhaps even more callous and stupid remarks in response - what you'd expect from folks like them. Perhaps better to consider the source, and then ignore it. Sorry for your loss.

Headphones should be outlawed while walking on railroad tracks...no wait...trains should be outlawed around people wearing headphones.

That guy who was hit by the train a few days ago was my boyfriend, Ian. Whoisyourdaddy, that was a sick comment. While I feel like my world has ended, in no way do I feel like dying. I'm spending my holiday without the man I love and you're cracking jokes that the woman hit by the train could of been his girlfriend. You must think you are really cute to draw upon the only thing they both have in common. I hope it was a tragic accident in her case. I know how her family must feel....as for you, just sick to get your kicks of others pain.

It was a suicide. Some guy killed himself using an Amtrak train a couple days ago. It might be his girlfriend. Am I sure? Nope, I'm not sure. That's why I said it MIGHT BE! 8)

hey, landesign! I was giving the deceased some credit. Nobody is stupid enough to walk on the track with headphones on. So I was thinking she might have been trying to kill herself!

Insensitive? I am. Here's my favorite song with the same title: How insensitive. I must have seemed when she told me that she loved me. How unmoved and cold. I must have been when she told me so sincerely. Why she must have asked? Did I just turn and stare in icy silence? What was I to say? What can you say? When a love affair is over...

@whoisyourdaddy & honest_a_hol - Your comments, below, are incredibly thoughtless, callous and immature. No one will think either of you to be witty or glib by making such comments. We all only pity your embarassing lack of propriety and hope in the future you don't try so hard to stand out in such an inappropriate manner. Could either of you stand face to face with a relative or family member of the victim (who WAS doing an incredibly stupid thing) and laugh in their face or crack a bad suicide joke? If you don't think that would be an appropriate thing to do how can you post such comments? Maybe it is because you feel your comments are essentially anonymous because none of us knows who you really are. But you know who, and what, you both are. An apology from both of your would go a long way towards your redemption.

The horns are plenty loud and regardless of noise restrictions if a train crew see's a pedestrian on the tracks they will sound them. The trains themselve's are quiet, and running on continuosly welded rail you do not hear the wheels hitting the jointed rail. I agree this was avoidable if they weren't wearing headphones. It does block out the horn noise!! but also she shouldn't have been walking on tracks regardless

If train horns are quiet indeed, that's probably because of the nearby residents complaints. Just like the street lights that are not bright enough. But it was an avoidable accident if the victim didn't wear the headphones with loud music.

I work everyday on the tracks around these trains and you would be amazed on how quiet they are, now add headphones and other distractions your just asking for trouble. If people would just use common sense these days we wouldn't have these problems.

Dang if it was one of those cartoon trains it could have just swerved around her. I know it sounds cruel but the only thing that can happen from walking on a train track is you end up dead.

Some people here are cruel it seems. Do you know how loud the music on a ipod would have to be to block out a Amtrak Horn? Was she wearing those headphones that block out outside noise? Listening to music that loud is rather dumb.

Suicide by train gets more common since the suicide prevention fence! When they were building the fence, I said loud and clearly it's a waste of money!!
