Person killed by train
SEATTLE -- A person was killed Thursday when they were hit by an Amtrak train in the North Beach neighborhood of Seattle, near Ballard.
According to Seattle Fire, the victim was hit by the "Empire Builder" passenger train around 2:10 p.m. near NW Neptune Place and NW Blue Ridge Drive.
Amtrak said 84 people were on the train when the incident happened.
Neighbors told KING 5 News the victim was a woman walking on the tracks wearing headphones, and people yelled to catch her attention before she was hit by the train.
The "Empire Builder" route runs from Chicago to Seattle.
Amtrak reported the train remains stopped at the scene while Seattle Police investigate.
Seattle Police said a traffic collision investigator will continue the investigation, and the scene may be closed for 2-4 hours.
